Sakai – Superior Katana Special Edition
The Sakai Katana Shinken is deliberately restrained: green Japanese silk, dark lacquer and a responsive 1095 blade create a clean, balanced sword. This Superior Special Edition is aimed at those who prefer classic proportions and understated fittings over heavily decorated mounts.
What makes this Special Edition different
- Genuine green silk tsuka-ito made in Japan
- Real Gunome Chōji hamon
- Japanese-style hamon polish
- 1095 Maru Kitae blade with single bohi
- Black Kuroro saya with genuine buffalo-horn fittings
These are not simply cosmetic additions. Together they define the specification of this version and clearly separate it from the regular model in the Superior Series.
Blade construction and heat treatment
The sharp 1095 carbon-steel blade uses Maru Kitae construction and differential clay hardening. A genuine Gunome Chōji hamon is brought out with a Japanese-style polish, while the single bohi helps keep the sword comparatively light and responsive. The result is a blade that favours precision and control rather than sheer mass.
Tsuka, fittings and saya
The 28.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in genuine green silk made in Japan, with Hinerimaki and hishigami over real samegawa. A Mokko tsuba and bronze fuchi/kashira keep the fittings visually restrained. The 77 cm black Kuroro saya is completed with genuine buffalo-horn components.
Design language and inspiration
The Sakai avoids an overly ornate approach. Its identity comes primarily from the green silk grip, dark saya and discreet metal fittings. This reduction gives the sword a clean presence and makes the unusual handle colour the defining feature of the Special Edition.
Individually numbered and signed
This sword belongs to the YariNoHanzo Superior Katana – Special Editions collection. Each example is individually numbered and signed, making these configurations clearly identifiable as special interpretations of established Superior models.
Free extras included
Every Special Edition comes with a katana maintenance and cleaning kit for routine blade care and a silk sword bag with fusahimo for storage and presentation. Both are supplied at no additional cost.
