Kimura – Superior Katana Special Edition
The Kimura Katana Shinken is defined by elegant proportions inspired by late-Edo and Bakumatsu-era swords. A pronounced curvature, a 1095 blade with bohi and black Japanese silk give this Superior Special Edition a refined profile without sacrificing practical handling.
What makes this Special Edition different
- Genuine black silk tsuka-ito made in Japan
- Hinerimaki tsukamaki with hishigami
- Real Gunome Chōji hamon
- Japanese-style hamon polish
- Black Kuroro / Inro saya with genuine buffalo-horn fittings
These are not simply cosmetic additions. Together they define the specification of this version and clearly separate it from the regular model in the Superior Series.
Blade construction and heat treatment
The blade is forged from 1095 carbon steel in Maru Kitae construction and differentially hardened with clay. Its real Gunome Chōji hamon is enhanced by a Japanese-style polish that makes the heat-treatment line clearly visible. A single bohi supports balanced handling, while the 75 cm nagasa and 2.9 cm sori create the long, elegant silhouette that distinguishes the Kimura.
Tsuka, fittings and saya
The 27.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in genuine black Japanese-made silk, arranged in Hinerimaki with hishigami over real samegawa. A mokkogata tsuba and bronze fuchi/kashira add restrained contrast. The 83 cm saya combines Kuroro and Inro styling, with genuine buffalo horn used for the koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri.
Design language and inspiration
The Kimura takes its visual cues from katana proportions associated with the Bakumatsu period, the final decades of Tokugawa rule. The historical reference appears mainly in the line and balance of the sword rather than through excessive decoration, giving the model a refined, historically informed character.
Individually numbered and signed
This sword belongs to the YariNoHanzo Superior Katana – Special Editions collection. Each example is individually numbered and signed, making these configurations clearly identifiable as special interpretations of established Superior models.
Free extras included
Every Special Edition comes with a katana maintenance and cleaning kit for routine blade care and a silk sword bag with fusahimo for storage and presentation. Both are supplied at no additional cost.
