Fuji – Superior Katana Special Edition
The Fuji Katana Shinken brings together an advanced Honsanmai Kitae blade and a refined mounting inspired by Mount Fuji. Genuine Japanese-made gold silk gives the handle a distinctive signature, while the layered blade construction places this model firmly at the technical end of the Superior range.
What makes this Special Edition different
- Genuine gold silk tsuka-ito made in Japan
- Honsanmai Kitae blade using 1045 + 1060 + 1095 carbon steel
- Real Gunome Chōji hamon
- Single bohi and full-tang construction
- Black Kuroro saya with genuine buffalo-horn koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri
These are not simply cosmetic additions. Together they define the specification of this version and clearly separate it from the regular model in the Superior Series.
Blade construction and heat treatment
Three grades of carbon steel — 1045, 1060 and 1095 — are brought together in a Honsanmai Kitae structure. The blade is folded, then differentially hardened with clay to produce a genuine Gunome Chōji hamon. A single bohi reduces weight and supports quicker directional changes without compromising the full-tang construction, which is secured by two bamboo mekugi.
Tsuka, fittings and saya
The 26.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in genuine gold silk made in Japan, with hishigami beneath the Hinerimaki to keep the diamonds even and stable. Real black samegawa creates a strong contrast beneath the gold wrap. The fittings use Mount Fuji as the visual thread of the koshirae, while the 79 cm black Kuroro saya is completed with genuine buffalo-horn koiguchi, kurikata and kojiri.
Design language and inspiration
Mount Fuji has long occupied a central place in Japanese art and design. Here it is used as a unifying concept for the mounting rather than as a single decorative motif. The restrained black saya and gold silk handle give the Fuji an elegant appearance that complements, rather than distracts from, the complex Honsanmai blade.
Individually numbered and signed
