Oni – Superior Katana Special Edition
The Oni Katana Shinken combines a sophisticated composite blade with a bold koshirae built around Oni, Hannya and Fūten imagery. This Superior Special Edition is intended for experienced practitioners and collectors who want serious construction together with a distinctive Japanese-inspired mounting.
What makes this Special Edition different
- Genuine black silk tsuka-ito made in Japan
- Kobuse Kitae blade forged from 1060 + 1095 carbon steel
- Real Gunome Chōji hamon created by differential clay hardening
- Single bohi, full-tang construction and two bamboo mekugi
- Black Kuroro saya with metal Hannya kurikata and matching Oni-themed kogatana
These are not simply cosmetic additions. Together they define the specification of this version and clearly separate it from the regular model in the Superior Series.
Blade construction and heat treatment
The sharpened blade is hand-forged and folded from 1060 and 1095 carbon steels in a Kobuse Kitae configuration. This composite construction places different steel characteristics within the same blade architecture. Differential clay hardening creates a genuine Gunome Chōji hamon, while the single bohi removes part of the mass without taking away the substantial feel of the sword. The full tang is secured inside the tsuka by two bamboo mekugi.
Tsuka, fittings and saya
The 28.5 cm tsuka is wrapped in genuine black silk made in Japan, executed in Hinerimaki with hishigami over real black samegawa. A kakugata tsuba and coordinated fittings develop the Oni, Hannya and Fūten theme across the mount. The 80 cm black Kuroro saya uses genuine buffalo horn at key points and includes a metal Hannya kurikata plus a themed kogatana and kozuka.
Design language and inspiration
Oni and Hannya imagery belongs to one of the most expressive areas of Japanese visual culture. On this model the theme is carried through several elements rather than being confined to a single decorative fitting. The result is a forceful but coherent koshirae that stands apart from more conventional floral or heraldic sword mounts.
Individually numbered and signed
This sword belongs to the YariNoHanzo Superior Katana – Special Editions collection. Each example is individually numbered and signed, making these configurations clearly identifiable as special interpretations of established Superior models.
Free extras included
Every Special Edition comes with a katana maintenance and cleaning kit for routine blade care and a silk sword bag with fusahimo for storage and presentation. Both are supplied at no additional cost.
